What is a Pip?

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest standard unit of measurement in forex trading. For most currency pairs, one pip equals 0.0001 (the fourth decimal place). For pairs involving the Japanese yen (like USD/JPY), one pip is 0.01 (the second decimal place).

Understanding pip values is essential for calculating your potential profit or loss on any trade before you enter it. The pip value changes depending on the currency pair, your lot size, and your account currency.

Pip Value Formula

For USD-quoted pairs (e.g., EUR/USD): Pip Value = Lot Size × Pip Size × 100,000

For non-USD quoted pairs, divide by the current exchange rate of the pair. The calculator above handles all these calculations automatically.
