Cloudflare Shares Surge Over 16% After Raising Full-Year Forecast on Surging AI-Driven Demand

Cloudflare Inc. shares jumped more than 16% in premarket trading on Friday after the company raised its full-year 2026 revenue and earnings forecasts, citing resilient demand fueled by artificial intelligence agents and machine-to-machine traffic. The cloud services provider reported second-quarter revenue of $696.1 million, up 36% year-over-year and well above estimates, while non-human traffic on its network surpassed 50% for the first time. The results follow Amazon’s strongest AWS growth in over four years, underscoring software firms as key winners in the AI infrastructure buildout.

Cloudflare Delivers Strong Q2 Beat and Raises Full-Year Guidance on AI Momentum

Cloudflare reported Q2 fiscal 2026 revenue of $696.1 million, a 36% increase from the prior year and ahead of the LSEG consensus estimate of approximately $665.5 million. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.29, beating the $0.27 expectation. Non-GAAP operating income reached $96.1 million, or 14% of revenue.

The company raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $2.864 billion–$2.870 billion (roughly $2.86–$2.87 billion), up from the prior range of $2.805–$2.813 billion and above the analyst average of $2.81 billion. This implies about 32% year-over-year growth. Adjusted EPS guidance was lifted to $1.25–$1.26 from $1.19–$1.20. For the third quarter, Cloudflare expects revenue of $736–$737 million (about 31% growth) and non-GAAP operating income of $129–$130 million.

Large customers (those spending over $100,000 annually) rose 27% year-over-year to 4,698, with a record 986 net additions over the past 12 months. Remaining performance obligations grew 38% to $2.732 billion, with current RPO up 35%. The dollar-based net retention rate accelerated to 120%. Developers on the platform surpassed 7.4 million after nearly 2 million were added in Q2 alone—more than the total added in all of 2025. Non-human (primarily AI agent) traffic exceeded 50% of network traffic for the first time. The Workers developer platform was the fastest-growing segment amid a shift to usage-based models.

In May, Cloudflare announced a roughly 20% workforce reduction (more than 1,100 jobs) as part of an AI-led restructuring, with related charges estimated around $140–$165 million. Free cash flow in Q2 was $56.4 million (8% of revenue), up 69% year-over-year. Cash and equivalents stood at about $4.16–$4.2 billion.

Why Markets Reacted: Strong AI Tailwinds and Analyst Confidence Drive Share Surge

Investors responded enthusiastically to the beat-and-raise results and clear evidence that AI agent workloads are driving higher traffic and monetization. Shares rose as much as 16–18% after hours on Thursday and were last up 16.2% at $330.51 in premarket Friday trading (from a prior close near $284). The Workers platform’s rapid growth and the shift toward consumption-based revenue, combined with strong large-customer expansion, signaled durable AI tailwinds.

Analysts at Morgan Stanley highlighted Workers as the fastest-growing segment and expected the company to exceed its outlook. RBC Capital Markets noted that Cloudflare “has multiple, durable avenues to AI-monetization over the long-to-medium term that warrants a premium valuation.” The results also aligned with broader AI infrastructure demand, including Amazon’s report of its strongest cloud growth in more than four years and an admission that it will lack sufficient capacity to meet all demand in 2026 (and likely 2027). AWS revenue rose 37% to $42.2 billion, with a backlog of $496 billion.

Cloudflare’s AI-Driven Growth Strategy Fuels Strong Momentum

Cloudflare operates a global connectivity cloud network providing security, performance, and developer platform services. Its “Acts” strategy includes application services, SASE/Zero Trust (Cloudflare One), the Workers developer platform, and emerging agentic internet monetization capabilities. Non-human traffic growth reflects the rise of AI answer engines and autonomous agents, with management stating that over 80% of major AI companies are customers.

Year-to-date through early August 2026, Cloudflare shares had gained over 44%, lagging cybersecurity peers CrowdStrike (up near 77–85%) and Palo Alto Networks (up near 95–100% in some periods) but still reflecting strong AI-related enthusiasm. The stock has traded at elevated valuations, with forward price-to-earnings ratios reported above 190 times in recent data (versus over 145 times for CrowdStrike). Network capital expenditures are guided at 14–15% of revenue for the full year. The company is pacing ahead of its goal to reach GAAP profitability by the end of 2028.

What’s Next: Focus on Q3 Execution and Sustained AI Monetization

Investors will closely watch Q3 results for continued acceleration in Workers adoption, large-customer growth, and the pace of AI agent traffic monetization. Management has emphasized prudent guidance amid higher visibility challenges from usage-based models. Broader AI infrastructure capacity constraints at hyperscalers like Amazon could continue to support demand for Cloudflare’s edge network and developer tools. Further analyst commentary and any updates on restructuring benefits or new AI-related product monetization (such as identity-aware gateways or payment rails for agents) will be key near-term catalysts. The company continues to target Rule of 50+ metrics (growth plus margins) in coming years.
