Key Points
- Dogecoin recovered toward $0.084 Friday after falling more than 8% across September 9 and 10.
- Bitwise will close its BWOW Dogecoin ETF, which held roughly $722,000 in assets as of September 8.
- DOGE remains technically vulnerable, with $0.080 emerging as the critical downside level.
Dogecoin is attempting to stabilize near $0.084 on Friday after two sharp daily declines pushed the meme coin toward its September support zone. The recovery comes one day after Bitwise announced plans to close its Dogecoin exchange-traded fund, BWOW. The decision removes one U.S.-listed institutional vehicle for DOGE exposure, but the fund’s small asset base limits its significance for the broader market. For traders, price structure remains the more immediate concern: DOGE needs to defend $0.080 and recover the $0.085–$0.090 region to improve its short-term outlook.
Bitwise Sets October Date for BWOW Exit
Bitwise announced on September 10 that it will liquidate the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) as part of an effort to optimize its product lineup. The company did not attribute the closure to a negative investment view on Dogecoin. BWOW’s final trading session on NYSE Arca is expected on October 14. After trading ends, the fund will cease operations.
Remaining shareholders are scheduled to receive the net asset value of their holdings in cash on October 22, based on the fund’s October 21 NAV. Bitwise said investors remaining in the fund will not need to take additional action.
The scale of the fund provides important context. Bitwise’s own data showed BWOW held approximately 8.2 million DOGE worth $721,878 on September 8, with net assets of roughly $721,815. The ETF launched on November 25, 2025 and charges a 0.34% expense ratio.
Those numbers mean the closure is relevant to institutional DOGE products, but the potential liquidation is small relative to Dogecoin’s multibillion-dollar market capitalization. It therefore does not establish that BWOW’s closure alone will produce substantial selling pressure in DOGE.
DOGE Falls 8% Before Friday Rebound
The announcement arrives after a difficult stretch for Dogecoin. DOGE fell 4.33% on September 9 and another 3.81% on September 10 on Binance, taking the price from around $0.090 to approximately $0.0829. The cryptocurrency then recovered more than 1% Friday, trading around $0.084 during the session. The decline follows a volatile August. DOGE briefly traded above $0.10 on August 22, but buyers failed to maintain the breakout.
Trading activity remains substantial. Investing.com data showed Binance DOGE volume above 700 million tokens Friday, following roughly 799 million on Thursday and 862 million Wednesday. The recent sequence therefore points to continued market participation despite the price decline rather than an absence of liquidity.
$0.080 Becomes the Critical DOGE Level
Technically, the immediate battle is developing between approximately $0.080 support and $0.090 resistance. DOGE approached $0.082 during Thursday’s selloff before recovering. Earlier this month, the token reached a low around $0.0802 on September 2, making the $0.080 area an established short-term support region.
A sustained break below $0.080 would weaken the structure and could shift attention toward approximately $0.074–$0.075. If selling intensifies, the August lows around $0.069–$0.070 would become increasingly relevant.

Bulls face several obstacles before the outlook improves. The first recovery zone sits around $0.0845–$0.0870. Clearing it would allow DOGE to challenge $0.090 again. A convincing break above $0.090 would be a stronger indication that the latest correction has lost momentum. DOGE’s September 11 recovery is constructive, but one positive session does not yet reverse the losses recorded earlier this week.
Conclusion
Bitwise’s decision to close BWOW deserves attention, but its significance should not be overstated. The ETF held only about $722,000 in assets, and Bitwise described the closure as a product-range decision rather than a rejection of Dogecoin. Price action presents the larger immediate risk.
DOGE has retreated from above $0.090 to roughly $0.084 in a matter of days, putting $0.080 support under renewed scrutiny. Holding that level could preserve the possibility of another recovery toward $0.087 and $0.090. A confirmed break below it would expose deeper support and reinforce the bearish short-term structure.
