USD/CHF Forecast: Dollar Risks Further Losses Below the 0.8220 Level

The USD/CHF pair fell more than 0.5% on Wednesday, trading near 0.8160 after briefly touching an almost eight-week low around 0.8127. The US Dollar weakened broadly as investors assessed the political and economic implications of Democratic gains in the US midterm elections. Although the pair recovered from its session low, the broader technical structure remains bearish. A rejection near 0.8220 has reinforced selling pressure, while momentum indicators suggest that buyers have yet to establish a sustainUSD/CHF Forecast: Dollar Risks Further Losses Below the 0.8220 Level

ed recovery.

Midterm results weigh on the US Dollar

The Dollar came under pressure as election results pointed to a shift in control of Congress. Investors are assessing whether a Democratic-led legislature could constrain President Donald Trump’s policy agenda, including proposals related to government spending and technology investment.

ING currency strategist Chris Turner said the Dollar’s recent recovery may partly reflect the delayed transition of the new Congress, which does not take office until January, and Trump’s acceptance of the election outcome. Those factors may have limited immediate political uncertainty and prevented a deeper sell-off.

Turner also described a Democratic-controlled Congress as a mild negative for the Dollar. Potential pressure could come from changes to the outlook for artificial-intelligence investment and the possibility of a prolonged government shutdown from next summer. These are risks rather than confirmed outcomes, and their impact will depend on negotiations over spending and legislation.

The Swiss Franc has benefited from the broader retreat in the US currency. As a traditional defensive currency, the Franc can attract demand during periods of political or financial uncertainty. However, USD/CHF direction will also depend on interest-rate expectations and economic data from both countries.

Double top keeps USD/CHF under pressure

The four-hour chart shows USD/CHF trading within a bearish channel after failing to sustain gains above 0.8220. The rejection reinforces a potential double-top pattern, formed around 0.8380. This pattern develops when a market tests a similar high twice but fails to break through, suggesting that resistance is attracting sellers.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains below 40, indicating weak momentum without yet reaching deeply oversold territory. Meanwhile, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) is slightly negative, supporting the view that the recovery lacks strength.

The pair has so far found support around 0.8130. A decisive move below that area would bring the double-top measured target near 0.8050–0.8070 into focus, close to the early-September lows.

0.8220 resistance defines the next move

The immediate outlook depends on whether sellers can maintain control below 0.8220. A sustained break above that level would weaken the bearish setup and shift attention toward nearby resistance.

Key levels for traders include:

  • Immediate support: 0.8130.
  • Downside target: 0.8070–0.8050.
  • Key resistance: 0.8220.
  • Further resistance: 0.8250 and 0.8313.

Conclusion

USD/CHF remains vulnerable while it trades below 0.8220, with the double-top structure and weak momentum favoring sellers. A break below 0.8130 could expose the 0.8050–0.8070 region. Conversely, a sustained recovery above 0.8220 would challenge the bearish outlook and put 0.8250 in view. Political developments may continue to influence the Dollar, but confirmation from price action remains essential.
