The Cardano Foundation and Brazilian blockchain firm Blockforce have anchored more than 500,000 supply-chain certificates on Cardano’s public ledger, with contracts covering 6.5 million more through 2030. ADA now functions as the public proof layer inside Blockforce’s traceability platform, already running with major Brazilian fashion groups. The deal targets a specific compliance gap: proving supply-chain claims to outsiders without exposing supplier names, pricing, or contract terms.
ADA Becomes Blockforce’s Public Proof Layer
Regulated supply chains face a structural problem. Auditors and regulators need documented proof of where materials came from, not just a brand’s assurance. Most supply chains run through tiers no brand has directly audited, and lower-tier suppliers frequently lack digital record-keeping systems. A fully private database gives outsiders nothing to check. A fully public ledger solves that but exposes commercial terms to competitors.
Blockforce built its platform to avoid both extremes. Sensitive records — supplier identities, contract terms, production volumes — stay on a permissioned Hyperledger Fabric network, visible only to parties directly involved. Only a cryptographic proof of each record gets anchored to Cardano, where any auditor or regulator can independently confirm authenticity without touching the underlying data.
Inside the Dual-Ledger Verification Model
Data enters Blockforce’s system through ERP integrations, document uploads, or a WhatsApp AI agent built for suppliers without digital infrastructure. Records are then structured into GS1-aligned digital product passports and stored on the permissioned network before batching for anchoring:
- Batch size: Up to 44 supply-chain certificates are grouped into a single Cardano transaction, keeping each one independently traceable.
- Scale: The initial production migration replaced what would otherwise have required hundreds of thousands of separate transactions.
- Compliance: Records support requirements under regulations like the EU Deforestation Regulation and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
André Salem, Blockforce’s founder and CEO, said the company needed public infrastructure that could handle enterprise transaction volume without enterprise transaction costs, and that batching certificates into a single anchor delivered a cost structure workable at scale.
Scaling to 6.5 Million Records by 2030
Guilherme Pereira, the Cardano Foundation’s Ecosystem Growth Specialist for Latin America, framed the milestone around Brazilian exporters facing rising pressure to document where products originate. The current contracts extend beyond fashion into automotive, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, with roughly 6.5 million certification anchors planned through 2030.
The partnership represents one of Cardano’s larger production deployments to date, moving past the pilot-scale traceability projects the network has run since 2021. Whether the model holds at 6.5 million records will depend on batching efficiency staying stable as transaction volume climbs — a test the current 500,000-record rollout is already running in production.
