Strategy Buys 4,603 More Bitcoin, Total Holdings Hit 845,050 BTC

Strategy resumed weekly Bitcoin purchases after a roughly two-month pause, buying 4,603 BTC for $370 million as Bitcoin traded above $80,000. The purchase followed Michael Saylor’s “We’re Back” post on X and came weeks after the company had been selling coins to fund preferred-stock buybacks. Strategy now holds 845,050 BTC, the largest corporate Bitcoin treasury in the world.

Strategy Buys 4,603 BTC For $370 Million

According to an 8-K filing with the SEC, Strategy acquired 4,603 BTC between Aug. 24 and Aug. 30 at an average price of $80,318 per coin, spending roughly $369.7 million. The company’s total holdings now stand at 845,050 BTC, acquired for an aggregate $63.73 billion at an average purchase price of $75,412 — representing about 4% of Bitcoin’s 21 million maximum supply.

The purchase ended a pause that began June 29, when Strategy adopted its Digital Credit Capital Framework and shifted toward selling Bitcoin to fund preferred-stock obligations. During that stretch, the company sold 6,948 BTC across four separate transactions, including a 1,690 BTC sale on Aug. 10 at an average of $64,262 per coin — roughly 15% below its cost basis. Bitcoin has since rallied from a low near $63,000 to a recent high above $81,000, and Monday’s purchase came at a price 25% higher than the August sale.

Strategy funded the buy by selling 4,531,421 MSTR shares under its at-the-market program, raising $602.8 million net of commissions.

STRC Stock Buyback Continues

Strategy directed the remaining proceeds toward its STRC preferred stock and cash reserves:

  • STRC buyback: Repurchased roughly 1.6 million shares for $151.8 million.
  • Cash reserves: Increased the USD cash pool to $1.61 billion and the USD reserve to $5.10 billion, bringing total dollar assets to $6.71 billion.
  • Net leverage: Reduced to 0.0%, meaning dollar assets now fully cover outstanding debt.

The combined dollar reserve now covers roughly 2.7 years of preferred dividend obligations across Strategy’s five preferred series without requiring further asset sales, according to the company’s disclosures.

MSTR stock traded near $128 following the announcement, up slightly on the day and roughly 32% higher over the past month.

Conclusion

Monday’s purchase marks a shift back toward accumulation after Strategy spent two months managing its balance sheet through asset sales rather than Bitcoin buying. With net leverage at zero and dollar reserves covering years of preferred obligations, the company has room to resume purchases without straining its capital structure. Whether Strategy sustains weekly buying will depend on where Bitcoin trades relative to its $75,412 average cost basis and how STRC’s price behaves relative to its $100 par value in the weeks ahead.
