USD/CHF Forecast: 0.8310 Holds as SNB’s 0% Rate Keeps Franc Under Pressure

The USD/CHF pair recovered to around 0.8310 on Monday after two sessions of losses, as a cautious Swiss National Bank (SNB) policy stance weighed on the franc. The SNB kept its policy rate at 0% in September, while expectations of tighter monetary policy elsewhere have widened interest-rate differentials. However, weakness in US consumer sentiment and shifting Federal Reserve expectations could limit the dollar’s advance. With the exchange rate trading inside a defined range, investors are watching economic data and technical support levels for the next directional signal.

SNB Policy Keeps Pressure on Franc

The Swiss National Bank left its policy rate unchanged at 0% on September 24, 2026. Chairman Martin Schlegel said inflation remained relatively low by international standards, although higher energy prices had pushed it upward. The bank also said it remained willing to intervene in foreign-exchange markets when necessary to maintain appropriate monetary conditions. These factors underline the SNB’s cautious approach rather than a commitment to rapid tightening.

Interest-rate differences can influence currency demand because investors often compare the returns available across countries. If US rates remain elevated while Swiss rates stay near zero, the dollar may retain a yield advantage over the franc. However, exchange rates also respond to economic growth, inflation, risk appetite and demand for safe-haven assets.

According to the USD/CHF outlook attributed to UOB Group, the pair remains in a consolidation phase. Its previously identified trading range of 0.8245–0.8365 provides a framework for the near-term outlook over the next one to three weeks.

Weak US Sentiment Complicates Dollar Outlook

The dollar faces a counterweight from weakening US consumer confidence. The University of Michigan’s preliminary Consumer Sentiment Index fell to 46.3 in October from 48.1 in September, below the market forecast of 47.6. The report points to persistent concerns about living costs and the economic outlook.

Readings like these can complicate the Federal Reserve’s policy decisions, particularly when inflation pressures remain elevated. Markets are assessing whether the central bank will maintain restrictive rates or adjust its approach as economic conditions evolve. Traders can monitor changing rate expectations through the CME FedWatch Tool.

Geopolitical tensions and energy-price fluctuations add another source of uncertainty. Renewed concerns about Middle East security can increase demand for defensive currencies, including the Swiss franc, potentially limiting USD/CHF gains even when US yields support the dollar.

USD/CHF Forecast: Support at 0.8307

Technical indicators retain a modest bullish bias. USD/CHF trades above its short- and medium-term exponential moving averages, while the 14-day Relative Strength Index near 60 indicates positive momentum without reaching traditionally overbought territory.

Key levels to watch include:

  • Immediate support: 0.8307, near the nine-day EMA.
  • Major support: 0.8196, around the 50-day EMA.
  • Range resistance: 0.8365, the upper boundary of UOB’s cited trading range.
  • Range support: 0.8245, the lower boundary of that range.

Conclusion

USD/CHF remains supported by the SNB’s zero-rate policy and a constructive technical setup, but weakening US sentiment could restrict further gains. A sustained move above 0.8365 would challenge the current range, while a decline toward 0.8245 would strengthen the consolidation case. Until either boundary breaks decisively, the pair’s near-term direction remains uncertain.
