Cardano climbed 11.5% in one week, adding $693 million in market value as whale accumulation and a major network upgrade fueled the best top-100 crypto performance.
Cardano Leads Weekly Crypto Gains
Cardano (ADA) delivered the strongest weekly performance among the world’s top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, supported by aggressive whale accumulation and renewed confidence following a significant blockchain upgrade. The cryptocurrency gained 11.52% over the past seven days, outperforming major digital assets including Monero, Uniswap, and BNB.
ADA advanced from $0.8246 on July 27 to approximately $0.9196 by August 3, reaching an intraday high near $0.922 before closing the week at a key technical resistance level that had limited price advances for nearly two months. The breakout attracted fresh investor attention and reinforced the asset’s improving market structure.
The rally also translated into a substantial increase in valuation. Cardano’s market capitalization expanded by approximately $693 million, rising from $6.007 billion to around $6.7 billion during the week. Despite a modest 1.44% pullback over the past 24 hours, daily trading activity remained healthy, with volume exceeding $544.9 million, highlighting sustained market participation.
Among other leading cryptocurrencies, weekly gains were considerably smaller. Monero (XMR) advanced 4.04%, Uniswap (UNI) climbed 3.86%, while BNB posted a 2.05% increase, underscoring Cardano’s clear leadership during the period.
Whale Buying Drives Momentum
A major catalyst behind Cardano’s outperformance was strong buying activity from large investors, commonly referred to as whales. According to blockchain analytics from Santiment, wallets holding between 100 million and 1 billion ADA accumulated more than 240 million ADA over the past week, representing purchases worth roughly $44.06 million at current market prices.
This investor segment now controls more than 14.3 billion ADA, equivalent to approximately 39.18% of the cryptocurrency’s circulating supply. Such concentrated accumulation is often viewed as a sign of long-term confidence, particularly when it occurs during periods of improving market sentiment.
Key market highlights:
- 11.52% weekly price increase for ADA.
- 240 million ADA accumulated by major holders.
- $693 million added to Cardano’s market capitalization.
- Whale wallets now control 39.18% of circulating supply.
Network Upgrade Strengthens Outlook
Investor optimism also gained support from Cardano’s latest technological milestone. The Van Rossem hard fork, activated on July 18, marked the blockchain’s first fully on-chain governed upgrade, representing another step toward decentralized network management under the Voltaire roadmap.
The update introduced lower smart contract execution costs, expanded Plutus programming capabilities, and enhanced governance functionality for developers and network participants. These improvements are designed to increase efficiency while making decentralized applications more cost-effective to build and operate.
The combination of fundamental network improvements and sustained institutional-scale accumulation has created a favorable backdrop for ADA. Although short-term volatility remains a defining characteristic of cryptocurrency markets, Cardano’s recent performance demonstrates how protocol upgrades and strategic whale activity can significantly influence investor sentiment.
If buying pressure continues while the network’s enhanced capabilities attract additional users and developers, Cardano could remain one of the digital asset market’s strongest performers in the weeks ahead.
