XRP’s “Most Loaded Month”: 3 Catalysts After 30% August Surge

XRP gained 30% in August, its worst-performing month historically, defying four straight years of August losses. Traders are now turning to September, a month that has closed positive every year since 2022 and one analyst has called XRP’s “most loaded month” in history. Between a Federal Reserve rate decision, a Senate vote on crypto legislation, and a Nasdaq listing vote, September carries more scheduled catalysts than any prior month in the token’s trading history.

XRP’s Bearish August Streak Breaks

XRP entered August with little reason for optimism. Every prior August since 2022 had closed lower, including a 26.6% loss in August 2023, and July’s gain of just 2.11% offered no momentum heading in. The pattern held through the first half of the month — XRP dipped below the $1.00 psychological support several times, with bears eyeing a slide toward $0.80.

That changed on August 19, when Bitcoin surged from under $65,000 to $80,000 in less than 48 hours, pulling the broader crypto market up with it. XRP joined a few hours late but moved fast once it did, climbing 70% between Wednesday and Saturday to touch a multi-month high of $1.70. Renewed inflows into XRP exchange-traded funds and heavy whale accumulation both coincided with the move. Gains cooled from there, and XRP closed the month just under $1.40 — still a 30% advance in a month that had never before finished positive.

Three Catalysts Define September

Unlike its August counterpart, XRP’s September performance has been positive in every year since 2022, ranging from a modest 0.42% gain in 2023 to a 46.2% surge in 2022. Trader RippleXity described the coming month as “the most loaded month” in the token’s history, pointing to three scheduled events:

XRP/USD Price Chart – Source: Tradingview
  • FOMC meeting: The Federal Reserve’s rate decision, roughly two weeks out, is expected to move risk assets broadly, XRP included.
  • CLARITY Act vote: The Senate returns September 14 and votes on the crypto-market-structure bill September 15, a result likely to shape sentiment across most altcoins into year-end.
  • Evernorth’s Nasdaq vote: Armada Acquisition Corp. II shareholders vote September 30 on Evernorth’s merger, which would make it the largest publicly traded XRP treasury company, holding roughly 473 million tokens under the planned ticker XRPN.

Conclusion

August’s rally broke a four-year losing streak almost entirely inside a single 72-hour window, showing how sensitive XRP remains to broader crypto momentum rather than its own standalone catalysts. September flips that dynamic: for the first time, XRP has three dated, XRP-specific events stacked in one month alongside a macro decision that affects every risk asset. Whether the month lives up to its billing will likely hinge less on any single event and more on whether the Fed, the Senate, and Evernorth’s shareholders all land on the same side of the trade.
